World figures show that literacy rates are lowest in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). In 2018, literacy in SSA was 67% whereas average world literacy was 86%.
Literacy skills are an entry point to developing more advanced, stable, and better compensated skills for work.
Women comprise approximately 2/3 of all illiterate adults world wide.
Our pilot program has recruited 250 female traders and domestic workers, 125 persons with disabilities, and 125 unemployed youth.
The ALP pilot will run for 4 months in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
